15A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2
Rather than interviewing those who draw everyday, I have decided to now interview people who would use ink pens in a professional settings. I believe this segment is more relatable to a lot more people than my previous segment. Although I believe I did well on my first set of interviews, it is nice to expand and interview different people as their responses may differ.
Interview 1: 27 year old law student
Alternative Evaluation- He believes the idea of an ink pen that doesn't bleed through other pages is a good idea because many people in professional settings like to write with ink pen. He questions how I would implement my idea, but thinks that if it were implemented properly, it has great potential. He also questions whether something similar to this exists already.
How/where do they buy?- He believes it would be beneficial to start selling my product online, and once is gains traction then hopefully have it be in stores. The first step would be creating a website and advertising the product.
Post purchase eval- Law students have to write a lot, and like my interviewee mentioned, a lot of people enjoy using an ink pen in a professional setting. My product is needed because their is a need for a solution of ink pen bleeding through.
Interview 2: 21 year old pre-med student
Alternative Evaluation- She uses ink pen for many of her assignments being a pre-med student, and often runs into this issue. She likes the idea of my product and wonders how it would be put into stores since there are already so many different pen options in stores.
How/where do they buy?- She believes it would be difficult to get my product in stores because there are already so many pen options in most convenient stores. It is a competitive market one could say.
Post purchase eval- I am realizing that students in general who write a lot would benefit greatly from my product. Especially in this segment, students on a professional career path. I feel these students could find great use in my product and they realize what it can also do for the environment.
Interview 3: 29 year old environmental science major
Alternative Evaluation- She is very passionate about the environment and believes all humans should try to be less wasteful. She acknowledges that there is an issue with wasting paper and likes that my product can help to eliminate that. She only minds when pen bleeds through for the reason that it is then considered unusable to most people and thrown out.
How/where do they buy? She suggests marketing my product to those who care for the environment and want to reduce waste in every way possible. She suggests to use minimal packaging if my products are shipped and to try to remain green for the most part.
Post purchase eval- I agree with this interviewee that it might be beneficial to market my product towards those who are more interested in being environmentally green. She seemed very enthusiastic about my idea and how it saves paper, so delving further into this segment could help.
Conclusion: I feel that my interviews went similarly to my last set of interviews, although I do feel this segment could relate to the issue more because they are all on professional/semi-professional career paths. I feel I have to figure out how I am going to implement my product more, and I need to figure out who I want my buyer audience to be.

Hi Skylar. Like you said, in this round of interviews you spoke to people who are on a professional career path. It seems that they gave you some different information that will allow you to further refine your idea. Interviews like these are a great way to explore who your buyer segments are. Great job on these interviews Skylar!
ReplyDeleteHi Skylar,
ReplyDeleteWell done with your interview and analysis of buyer behavior! I like how you chose to diversify your interviews, as having a wide and open perspective is very critical when choosing an optimal market segment. I really think you may be onto something by marketing the pen through an environmental lens as your third interviewee mentioned. I'd like to see where it could go. Keep up the great work!
Hi Skylar, amazing job with your interviews! I love how spread your interviews are and how thorough your buyer behavior analysis is. I also love how different your interviews are, you hit several different bullets to accumulate the most information possible through all interviews you held. Very thorough post, great job!
