20A- Growing Your Social Capital
Domain Expert: Debra F.
Debra is employed at a Michael's craft store and specializes in canvas work and pen work. She feels the art industry especially is missing a product like this. Artists who use paper to create their work may ruin paper with ink pen that is too runny. My product would solve that and Debra appreciates this. She does however, wonder how the product would actually be once produced. It sounds like a great idea in theory but it would most likely need a lot of trial and error and test runs.
Market Expert: Santiago M.
Santiago works at Target and oddly knows a lot about pens. He says he really enjoys writing with ink pens and his favorite brands are G2, and Zebra. He likes the idea of my product, and feels if I market it in a way that sets my product apart from other pens, that it could do well. I appreciate this feedback. It would be nice if my pens were sold in Target, and good marketing is definitely a step.
Supplier: Target or Michaels
I feel that my product would do best at a place like Target or Michaels. Target for more of the everyday person who just needs a good pen that won't leak and smudge, and Michaels for the artists who want to use my product for their work. This would be a beneficial network as many people go to these stores so maybe one day they will pick up my pen and try it.
Reflection: Before doing this assignment, I was skeptical about networking. I usually am the type of person who prefers to work on my own, however, after talking with these people I can understand why networking is beneficial. I learned that advertisement would be important and finding a way to "set my product away" from other similar products. I feel now, I am more open to networking.

Hi Skylar! It seems these experts will be a great network for you, especially if you decide to take your business idea further than this class. It was important that you include in your assignment how you discovered these experts and the measure of contact you used to communicate with them. Also, I suggest that you include what you expect from each of these experts and how exactly they can be beneficial to you. Overall, great job for building confidence to network! Networking can be very intimidating and it is a big step to get out there and speak to people like this!

Hi Skylar. Great work on your networking. It can be a little overwhelming, at first, to even consider how to network. However, in the end it always pays off because it is never a bad thing to know a lot of people. The people you spoke to seem to be great resources and even gave you some feedback on your product, which does not always happen. Good job!
