12A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment: Students at UF that draw every day.

Interview 1: 19 year old student
-She says her writing utensil of choice is a coptic marker.
-Coptic markers bleed through paper even more often than ink pens.
-Does not use ink pens unless she is writing notes for school.
-Never uses pencil.
-Thinks my solution sounds like a great idea that many art students could use.

Interview 2: 23 year old grad student
-Uses ink pen to outline things on his paintings.
-It really bothers him when the ink bleeds through.
-Says he uses pencil in school, and ink pen for art.
-Likes the idea of my solution, but thinks I need to expand on it.

Interview 3: 20 year old student
-She uses a mixture of different mediums for her art including ink pen.
-Finds that ink pen doesn't bleed if you push softly.
-Uses pencil in class, never ink pen because it bleeds through.
-Likes the idea of my solution but also thinks it needs to be expanded upon.

Conclusion:
I feel this segment of customers would really enjoy my product because of their shared hobby of drawing. Like I mentioned in my previous post, anyone who draws knows how annoying it can be when your pen bleeds through to the other side making the back of the sheet unusable. The feedback I received helps me to know what I need to improve on. I need to expand on my solution and explain it more thoroughly.

  1. Hi Skylar! Your post was great. The format you chose to display your work made it very simple for me to identify all the pieces of the assignment that were required. I think your segment was a great one to choose, but I think you should focus in on the type of paper these individuals use. Knowing what type of paper they use can be helpful in the manufacturing portion of your business idea. I know that frequent drawers have a preference on the type of paper they use therefore some people may not experience the issue you are describing. For the next set of interviews, maybe focus in on people who draw using a preferred type of paper.

  2. Hi Skylar,
Well done with your interviews and choice of market segment! One thing that stood out to me immediately was that perhaps you could broaden your market segment to hobbyists/amateur artists as opposed to just students here at UF. Aside from this, I think you gained a good deal of valuable knowledge- as your interviewees mentioned, you definitely have some room to expand on this product and refine it. Aside from that, I really think you may have a promising idea!

  3. Hello Skylar. It is valuable that you continue to use the feedback that you receive from your interviews, as well as from the comments we leave, to further propel your product. You often mentioned that your idea needs to be expanded upon, and described more thoroughly, and an idea that came to my mind was maybe a pen that solved your issue of leaking through the paper, but also had many other benefits over different products, like maybe the ability to erase or choose between many colors. That was just a thought of mine.

  4. Hey Skylar, I enjoyed reading your post as it is something that is related to a problem a lot of individuals have on a day to day basis. For example, I use to suffer through that problem before I ended up getting an iPad with the Apple Pencil. So I understand that struggle that people go through. I definitely see this being a great product if it is able to become affordable enough for people to keep buying them rather than just changing over to the iPad and Apple Pencil. Great work!

  5. Hi Skylar, great job on your interviews. You have said your idea can be expanded or broadened, after getting these interviews and acquiring this key information from potential buyers or investors, this would be a great way for you to expand on your business idea and re-create or adjust your model.
